CORPUS is a new customer magazine aimed as much at decision makers in the construction industry as at architects, structural engineers, urban planners and product designers. Its focus is on the review and analysis of current issues in the fields of urbanization, architecture, infrastructure and sustainability all of which have a major effect on how we will live in the future, worldwide. How will demographic change and the rapid growth of cities impact the architecture of tomorrow? How can ecological and urban planning challenges be mastered with the aid of new high-performance materials? Interdisciplinary work on possible responses to these and other important issues is presented interactively in CORPUS. Some of these approaches are embodied in BASF high-performance products for the construction sector, and the magazine graphically depicts and explains their characteristics and possible applications. CORPUS is appearing quarterly. This year we find ourselves in the middle of K-Fair again, where we highlight how BASF s high-performance construction products often do their job hidden from view. North of the Arctic Circle at sea depths of several hundred meters for example one of our innovative products is in action: With the help of our PU elastomers the roughly 500 km long Polarled subsea gas pipeline is installed safely in the world s deepest laying operation in the Norwegian sea. Just as invisible yet equally effective, BASF s beyond.High Performance approach is launching a brand new way to construct residential buildings in North America. The result is a more energy efficient, comfortable living space. Just how this concept works and what it is capable of are revealed by a report from the USA. In this edition, we also talked with former biology student Doris Sung, who is now an architect researching fascinating materials and hoping to apply the functions and abilities of our bodies to buildings. We hope that these articles inspire you to think about the possibilities that lie in construction. In the meantime, enjoy reading about these and other exciting topics in this issue!
